The parts that keep an AED programme working aren't the AED. They're the wall cabinet, the response kit, the inspection tag, the spare pads in the drawer — and the 9V battery inside a Defibtech that nobody knew was there. This category is everything around the device.
If you own a Defibtech Lifeline, there is a separate 9V ASI battery inside the unit that drives the self-test system. It is not the main battery pack, and the published 5- and 7-year standby figures assume it is fitted and in date. Replacing the main pack and leaving the 9V alone leaves a gap in the device's own monitoring — and a Lifeline that keeps chirping after a new battery is very often this.
A complete station is usually: the AED, a cabinet or bracket, wall and directional signage, a response kit, a spare set of pads, and an inspection tag. Pediatric pads too if children are on site. That's the version that actually works at 2am when the person who set it up isn't there.
